This position is one built to support the Catering Chef de Cuisine and the Sous Chef, as well as assist with developing our Team Members into strong leaders. They will lead the kitchen team by example and execute quality products that meet the standards we have become known for. They will delegate tasks to the team and take on administrative duties such as inventory and ordering. They will also assist with weekly prep sheets and fulfilling drop-off orders.

The Role

This role is responsible for two main priorities. The first is to oversee the production team in preparing for catering off-site events. The second is to facilitate small to large-scale drop-offs in collaboration with HungerHub and other potential drop-off clients, ensuring orders are ready and presentable for pickup. The role requires strong organization, time management skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Production Management

  • Prepare food for on-site execution as specified by the Chef
  • Follow recipes accurately as outlined by Chef
  • Coordinate timing of dish completion with other cooks, and accommodate special requests and dietary restrictions as directed by Chef
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Ontario Health and Safety Standards as per the Food Handlers Certification
  • Maintain a spotless workspace including but not limited to sanitizing all surfaces, sweeping, mopping, and enforcing regular hand washing
  • Participate in responsible food and waste diversion programs, abiding by FIFO and maintaining inventory by storing and labelling all food and produce properly
  • Assist in properly receiving and storing delivered items
  • Exhibit respect and ongoing curiosity for enhancing cooking skills and techniques.

Drop-Off Catering, HungerHub

  • Collect weekly orders from HungerHub
  • Assist with placing weekly produce orders
  • Prepare orders, accommodating special dietary requests
  • Use sustainable packaging
  • Ensure orders look clean and presentable for pick up
  • Orders are ready on time for daily pick-ups
  • Lead a team to swiftly execute menu in a timely manner

Communication

  • Work alongside the Chef de Cuisine of Catering, to map, delegate and execute the prep list for the current workload
  • Responsible for assisting CDC with monthly inventory
  • Actively participate in fostering an atmosphere of hard work, discipline, respectful communication, cooperation, and positivity among all staff

Who You Are

  • 2-year previous Senior cook experience in high volume kitchen or equivalent experience
  • Exceptional time management skills, leadership, and communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of safe food handling
  • Solid technical culinary foundation
  • Ability to carry 50lbs and work for 8-10 hours on your feet
  • Strong Leadership and Communication skills
  • Valid Food Handlers Certificate
  • Pastry experience is considered an asset
  • Weekend availability is required
