The Role
The Sous Chef position is built to support the Chef de Cuisine (CDC) and assist with developing our Team Members into strong leaders. They must lead the kitchen team by example, and ensure that our guests are always receiving a consistent, high-quality product in a timely fashion. They will delegate tasks to the team and take on administrative duties such as inventory and ordering.
Operations
- Oversee daily drop-off orders in a timely manner
- Prepare meals and Gusto 54 favourites according to company recipes and as specified by the weekly BEO’s provided by the businesses, adhering to modifications and dietary accommodation whenever necessary
- Support the Retail Operations with daily inventory stocking
- Provide support to junior and temporary kitchen team members with various tasks including cooking, food preparation and presentation
- Adhere to and implement sanitation regulations and safety regulations
- Manage the kitchen team in the CDC’s absence
- Perform duties in accordance with Ontario Health and Safety Standards and Green Leaf Certification, adhering to all food handling and health & safety procedures
Administration
- Assist with ordering and processing invoices as needed
- Responsible for completing online training including the Gusto 54 Coach Program, and acting on the Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Meet food cost targets through maintaining inventory and ordering systems with CDC
Communication
- Work alongside the CDC to map, delegate and execute prep list for the current workload
- Responsible for assisting CDC with monthly inventory
- Troubleshoot issues on-site in a calm and productive manner
- Actively participate in fostering an atmosphere of hard work, discipline, respectful communication, cooperation, and positivity among all staff
Who You Are
- VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED
- 2-year previous Senior Cook or Sous Chef experience in high volume kitchen or equivalent experience
- Exceptional time management skills and communication skills
- Thorough understanding of safe food handling and Valid Food Handlers Certification
- Pastry experience
